   Synopsis & Background Minimize

Sterling RB-24

The RB-24E was a highly modified version of the B-24D, which incorporated B-29 "remotely sighted" gunnery positions for training purposes. So secretive was this project, all who who witnessed the demise of 41-28483 were sworn to secrecy shortly after its crash. Perhaps the most important aspect of this particular crash is that it eventually led to enhanced safety and survivability standards for all USAAF aircraft.
