   Synopsis & Background Minimize

Pingree Park B-17

On October 18, 1943, a Rapid City Air Base B-17F, 42-6042, departed on a Radius of Action Training Mission towards Denver, Colorado, at 20:00 Hrs. MWT. At about 2330 Hrs., this aircraft impacted terrain on Stormy Peak, in inclement weather, approximately 31 miles west and 2 miles south of Ft.Collins. All eight crewmembers were instantly killed.

While the (then) accident investigator placed entire blame on the pilot, 2nd Lt. Richard Creamer, recent discoveries suggest the blame may not be entirely his.
